In latent tuberculosis, sufferers generally do not experience symptoms. Sufferers only realize that they have tuberculosis after undergoing examinations for other diseases.
Meanwhile, for people with active tuberculosis, the symptoms that appear can be:
- Long-lasting cough (3 weeks or more)
- Cough is usually accompanied by sputum or coughing up blood
- Chest pain when breathing or coughing
- Night sweats
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Fever and chills
- Fatigue

Symptoms of Tuberculosis in Children

The following are the symptoms that may be found in people with pediatric tuberculosis, namely:
- Persistent cough for more than two weeks
- Weight loss in 2 months or failure to grow
- Swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy)
- Persistent fever for more than two weeks
- The child appears weak (malaise) and less active
- Symptoms do not improve even though they have been given antibiotics and nutrients

See a doctor immediately if you or your child experiences symptoms of tuberculosis, especially if you live together or are in close contact with a TB sufferer. Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease can help reduce the likelihood of complications.
